While visiting Dutch Country, stop by the Strasburg Rail Road. Built in the 1800s, this coal burning steam train will take you on a 45 minute journey to Paradise, PA and back. All the while you can view the lovely Pennsylvania countryside while enjoying one of several train options. During July and August, guests can purchase tickets to ride in the President's Car which, as the name hints at, was once used for presidents and visiting dignitaries. You can also choose to ride in first-class style or enjoy the down home feel of coach, whichever class you choose, both are artfully decorated in authentic Victorian splendor. For a special treat, ride in the open-air car and gaze out across the expansive countryside as you catch glimpses of traditional Amish farms.
Your kids won't want to miss the Day Out With Thomas, as the full-sized operating steam locomotive known across the world as Thomas the Tank Engine takes your family on a wonderfully authentic ride. Thomas operates during select times so don't forget to check the schedule before heading to the rail road. The younger kids will also enjoy the Cranky Car, a hand-propelled car, which date back to the 1930s. The older kids will enjoy the opportunity to operate on the vintage Pump Cars along a short track.
If you are interested in dining on the train, Strasburg Rail Road has plenty of meal options for you to choose from. You can enjoy lunch in the dining car; enjoy a Pennsylvania Dutch Dinner; a dinner with live entertainment; a wine and cheese option; or hop aboard for the Traditional Dinner & Murder Mystery trip. Whichever meal option you choose, you are sure to enjoy your time spent in the elegantly restored "Lee E. Brenner" Dining Car.
