Central Market was built in 1889 and is America's oldest continually operated farmers market. People flock to the market to indulge in the handmade Amish goods and treats that are not commonly available outside of the market. In addition to Amish goodies, German, Greek, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, and Slavic tokens are available at the Central market as well. Most stands in the
Central Market are occupied by food sellers offering fresh fruits and produce, meats and cheeses, fish and seafood, flowers, baked goods, and the like. The most popular treats sold at the Market are Pennsylvania Dutch Sausage, headcheese, chowcow, scrapple, and butter pickles.
