Spoken Word Festival

The Millersville University, near Lancaster, in Millersville, Pennsylvania sponsors the annual Spoken Word Festival. The Spoken Word Festival is three days of poetry reading and storytelling provided by the Mountain Moon Storytellers. There is something about the spoken word that reaches the heart of humanity. The gifted storytellers will have you riveted to your seat. Poetry reading and storytelling is an art; the spoken word reaches into the soul to make you laugh, cry or reflect on days gone by.

Poets and storytellers captivate the audience, making the Spoken Word Festival an event to remember for a lifetime. The festival attracts people that might not ever be inclined to pick up a book of poetry, or to listen. Listening to poetry for the first time and every time allows you to feel the emotions of the poet at the time the poem was written.

The Spoken Word Festival is very exciting; poetry readers may introduce you to poetry in a brand new way. It is the voice that gives the poem life; on a page poetry may be just words, but the voice gives life to the words as they ebb and flow off the tongue.

If you are one who enjoys writing poetry, there will be poetry slams, which are competitions, where poets compete against each other. The panel of judges will make decisions based on the content of the poetry, and the delivery. Poetry slams offer up new poets that have something to offer that no one has ever heard before. The Spoken Word Festival does not have a set date in which the event takes place. Visitors should check local calendars if they want to attend this unique event.
