There are many celebrations in Lancaster each summer. Most of them are arts and cultural in theme. The city opens their doors for the public, hosting celebrations and festivals in the parks and city streets. One of the favorites is Hometown Day in Lancaster. This event, early in September, displays local cultural and heritage exhibits. There are many educational displays put on by local historians and historical organizations.
The one day, old fashioned experience is great fun for local residents and tourists alike. This celebration, like most of the other Lancaster ones, is offered to the public, free. One of the events is held by the
Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum, where visitors walk down memory lane while exploring quilts from their displays.
Shoppers have a wide selection of local stores and displays to peruse through. Take a break by dining outside the
Central Market. Take part in the auction at Pen Square.
Many of us have never experienced live in a small community. The only way they can experience a part of their heritage, is to attend events like this. They bring to life the lifestyle of the past, not in a passive way as a museum would. The Hometown Day celebration lets tourists take part in a one-day festival as they were held for the last one hundred years.
Do not leave planning your trip to Lancaster to the last minute. Hundreds of people flood into town for their celebrations. The parking is limited. Visitors either need to arrive early so they have time to walk into town, or stay 'in town' at one of the local establishments.
