America celebrates its independence day on the Fourth of July. It is also called modern America's birth day. The country adopted its Declaration of Independence on 4th July, 1776. Its 13 colonies got freedom from the Kingdom of the Great Britain. Fourth of July is a legal federal holiday all over the country. The celebrations are marked by the display of fireworks, parades, political speeches, games and other ceremonies.
Fourth of July is celebrated with special gusto at Lancaster in Pennsylvania. Lancaster is the oldest inland city in the United States of America. It is situated along the Susquehanna River. The city was first settled in 1718. Thereafter it became a county. The city was given this name by one of its prominent citizens, John Wright in memory of a place in England where he lived before settling in the United States.
Fourth of July is celebrated in Lancaster at Lititz Springs Park. The day is celebrated with great gusto and zeal by the local population. An Independence parade is held on 3rd July, a day before the Independence Day which is followed by entertainment program at Lititz Springs Park. The event is sponsored by the Lititz Lions Club.
Gates of the Lititz Springs Park are opened at noon on fourth July where the festivities continue throughout the day. The activities include baby shows, pageants, illumination of several thousand candles and of course the high tech fire works which mark the finale of the grand celebrations.
Celebrations are also held at Spring Gulch Resort Campground in Lancaster where competitive events for the people of all age groups are held.
