Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania is spread over an area of 1,000 acres of land which is comprised of twenty indoor gardens, heated greenhouses, magnificent fountains, meadows and woodlands. The lush green wonder lands attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year not only from the continental USA but from across the world. The most spectacular event of the year at the Longwood Gardens is the indoor Easter Display that is held from April 1-13 to welcome the spring.
More than one thousand Easter lilies and stately flowers stand up in splendorous display of their beauty and fill the atmosphere in the conservatory with their fragrance. The spectators are treated to the sight of variegated flowers which form a part of the Easter Extravaganza. Besides the several flower shows, the visitors also enjoy the sight of orchid 'curtain' in the Exhibition Hall.
Several outdoor shows are also held to celebrate the event. The gardens sport a variety of flowers including tulips, magnolias, cherries which are sprinkled with millions of small light bulbs which sparkle like gems of various hues. The festival features several daily programs and events that include gardening demonstrations, families' and children's activities which together add to the charm of the Easter Display.
The festivities include breakfast for the visitors from 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. with the Easter Bunny in the Terrace Restaurant. This is followed by an egg hunt. Brunch is also offered on certain days. If you are interested in participating in such programs, you should contact the organizers for early reservation. Classical concerts are held in the ballroom.
