At one time, wolves thrived throughout the Pennsylvania countryside. For the past 100 years, however, wolves have not been known to exist in the wild throughout the state. The Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization that is devoted to giving wolves a place of their own. Wolves at the Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania have 22 acres of unspoiled wilderness to roam together as a pack, choose their mates, raise their offspring, and lead otherwise natural lives. Altogether, over twenty Speedwell Wolves call the sanctuary home.
The Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania is located just a short drive outside of Lancaster in beautiful Dutch Country. With a tour of the Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania, you can learn more about the Speedwell Wolves that live here. Public tours are available only in the months of October through May on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Special tours may be scheduled at other times with an advance reservation. With your tour, you will be led through the sanctuary by a professional guide and wolf expert. You will learn more about the Speedwell Wolves, including their mating habits, their diet, their offspring, and much more. While the wolves are not pets, they all are treated as individuals and have their own name. On your tour, you can learn the stories of these wolves' lives and get to know them as the unique creatures they are.
With the sanctuary's desire to promote education and awareness of the wolves, special workshops and activities are also available at select times of the year including the popular Wolf Awareness Week. Before you leave the Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania, be sure to stop by the gift shop on-site. At the gift shop, you can purchase wolf and wildlife souvenirs and memorabilia. All of the proceeds from admission fees and gift shop purchases go towards the maintenance and care of the wolves and sanctuary. Additional donations are also accepted and appreciated.
