If you haven't seen Lancaster Square recently, you are in for a real treat. This historic square has recently undergone significant renovations, giving it a fresh appearance while retaining its historic character. Part of the renovation included transforming the Watt and Shand Building into a mixed used of retail and office buildings.
The 30,000 square foot Stoner Carousel remains in Lancaster Square, and is now surrounded by impressive grounds with terraced, sylvan lawns and verdant groves. The carousel was a featured attraction in the Rocky Springs Park from 1901 through 1983. Also in the area is the Lancaster Urban Entertainment center. The Lancaster Urban Entertainment Center is a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors alike, with a restaurant, a bar, a video arcade, a variety of recreational activities, and meeting rooms for special events. Along the remainder of Lancaster Square, you will find many quaint shops and eateries. Local restaurants include Annie Bailey's Irish Pub and Restaurant, the Red Rose, and Isaac's Restaurant.
Binn's Park is also located in Lancaster Square. Binn's Park has received some updating as well, including new landscaping, a fountain, beautiful garden areas, and a stage that is used for local events. Also in the area is the Demuth Museum, which showcases works of art from the legendary artist Charles Demuth. This museum features a unique collection of art work as well as temporary exhibits that change regularly.
Throughout Lancaster Square's existence, it has served as an important gathering place for community events as well as providing the community with a popular source of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Today, Lancaster Square is also used as a venue for community events such as Lancasterfest; the Jazz, Brews, and Blues festival; and the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.
