The Good ‘N Plenty farmhouse was originally built in 1871 but didn't become a restaurant until 1969 when Christ and Dolly Lapp purchased it from Aaron and Mary King. It originally seated just 114 people but word soon spread about the delicious food being served up here, with customers waiting up to 2 hours to get a seat. This led to the restaurant being expanded in 1971 with the Dutch Room being added to the rear of the restaurant. The restaurant could now seat 570 guests. During the winter of '94 the restaurant underwent major renovations and is now able to seat over 600 people at any one time, and the food has continued to be just as delicious with Christ and Dolly Lapp now running the restaurant with their children and grandchildren.
Good 'N Plenty Menu
Local chefs cook the finest Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine including baked country sausage, pork and sauerkraut, and shoofly pie. Their baked country ham, mashed potatoes, crispy fried chicken and roast beef are famous. The Bake shop is also well worth a visit as you can purchase delicious food to enjoy at home and everything in there is baked fresh every day. The gift shop has tasteful souvenirs unique to the area. This restaurant is open Monday through Saturday and is bound to be a big hit with the whole family.
Another place that serves excellent food in Lancaster is the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre where you can be entertained while enjoying a delicious meal. The menu here is classic American cuisine and is served buffet style. A typical menu may include a salad bar with six specialty salads and fresh rolls, while hot dishes include carved prime rib or turkey breast, pork tenderloin with Dijon sauce, pasta and potato dishes and fresh vegetables and to finish a choice of 15 deserts which include Turkey Hill ice cream and shoofly pie. Although the theatre seats 384, it still feels intimate and all meals are eaten under soothing candlelight. There are no pillars in the dining room so everyone has an unobstructed view of the stage. You can get to see your favorite Broadway shows featuring performers from national tours and nationally recognised directors, designers and choreographers. A live orchestra adds the finishing touch to a magical evening.
