For over 150 years, the Fulton Opera House has stood as a symbol of culture and entertainment for Lancaster and the surrounding region. This historic venue stands as one of the oldest operating theaters in the country and has received the designation of National Historic Landmark. Over the years, the Fulton Opera House has provided the region with a source of vaudeville performances, opera, and fine theatrical productions. The theater has had a long list of performance icons who have sat on the board, including the Barrymore family, Sarah Bernhardt, W. C. Fields, Mark Twain, Marcel Marceau, and numerous others.
Today, the theater retains its commitment to serve the community with an artistic outlet for its residents. This is provided through the efforts of several groups, including the Fulton Theatre, the Academy of Theatre, Youtheatre, and the Fulton Theatre for Young Audiences. Tours of the Fulton Opera House are available throughout the week. A tour is a great way to get a behind-the-scenes look at the theater and learn more about its rich history.
