The Fulton Opera House, also known as the Fulton Theatre, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is a nonprofit organization that strives to produce professional theatre and to provide theatre making classes for adults and children. This magnificent theatre was opened in 1852 and is one of only 8 theatres to be named a National Historic Landmark. The theatre has had a rocky past making it richer in history and has been used as a movie theatre, a jail, a vaudeville theatre, and more. Today it is home to the Lancaster Symphony, Orchestra, and Opera but it also hosts concerts and plays year round. Numerous great performers have graced the stage of the Fulton Theatre including W.C. Fields, Mark Twain, Sarah Bernhardt, and Alfred Lunt, just to name a few. The theatre has 684 roomy seats with ample leg room and provides handicap assistance to the hearing and sight impaired during select performances. The theatre's beautiful Victorian architecture and modern amenities makes it a wonderful place to reserve for special occasions like receptions, business functions, parties, and more.
The Fulton Opera House provides programs and classes year round for children and adults to learn any aspect of the theatre and to help provide a future trade for the young students as well as scholarship aid. The Fulton academy teaches classes like basic acting, voice, movement, and behind the scenes education such as makeup, directing, and scene designing. This award winning theatre has help many under privileged children for several years and given them opportunities they would otherwise not have been given.
The Fulton Opera House has put on many productions over the years, including plays and musicals, some of which are critically acclaimed.
