Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is a wonderful place to shop with places like the Central Market, the Old Mill House Shoppes, and Kitchen Kettle Village. Whether you are grocery shopping, shopping for a gift, or just browsing, the entire family will enjoy this excursion.
The Central Market in Lancaster is the oldest farmers' market in the country and it originated in 1730 when it was just a place where farmers and others could peddle their foods and wares. Incredibly after 280 years the market remains basically the same with the exception of a few buildings including one beautiful red brick building that is over 120 years old. The market is a social place where friends and neighbors sometimes meet for one reason or another. There have been as many as 400 stands at one time at the market with some stands remaining for many generations. You can find just about everything at the market including crafts, flowers, fresh produce, meats, dairies, coffees, candies, collectibles, authentic local meals, and a whole lot more.
The Old Mill House Shoppes in Lancaster has been helping people decorate their homes for over 33 years with beautiful furnishings and popular name brand items. The main building is 19th century barn that has been beautifully restored and it houses name brands like D. R. Dimes, Yankee Candle, Old World Christmas, and much more. You can find anything from local furnishings to whimsical designs to traditional décor to unique and unusual accents to your home.
The Kitchen Kettle Village is located in Intercourse, Pennsylvania which is in the county of Lancaster and in the heart of Dutch Country. In 1954 Pat and Bob Burnley started canning in their garage and sold their jams and other goodies to friends, neighbors, and family. Now they have an entire village on the property with over 30 shops where you can get items such as baked goods, candles, pottery, flowers, toys, crafts, clothes, and a whole lot more. They even have lodging and 3 restaurants in the village. What started as a love for cooking turned into a wonderland of shops and fun.
